<span style="font-weight: bold;">Anneke Van Giersbergen is one of those singers who define the music they perform for their unique vocal. Who listened to the music of the Dutch's giant The Gathering, and now follows Anneke in her new project, Agua de Annique, knows what I mean.
Nowadays, it's rare to hear a band and not associate its music with some vocal style heard previously. Bands come and go by the thousands every day, and each one has its inspiration in a personal icon or, at least, identify with some style in particular - and some of them can't get rid of it, risk different flights. Not that this is wrong, or cause of failures. But when we know a multifaceted artist who defines his own style and becomes conductor of his own image, without relying on comparisons to succeed, we have to admire the way that the music renew itself.
Agua de Annique reminisces The Gathering. It couldn't be different, with Anneke as the front voice and lyricist of both bands. Anneke remembers Anneke that is unmatched in the musical scene. It was with this thought that I went to the show on March 7th, and was presented with a performance so competent that, at the end of the show, understood in full the reasons which led her to be considered one of the best singers in the world by the international criticism.
The heating of the public was provided by the band Fake Twilight, who performed four songs of their own and a cover of "Enjoy The Silence". Rather, a cover of the cover, as the version played was made by Lacuna Coil, which in turn is a version of the classic by the band Depeche Mode. Although that being the first presentation by the band, according to press, the quartet demonstrated potential and certainly conquered fans among the crowd.

The main show began with the explosive "Hyperdrive", cover of the Canadian multi-instrumentalist Devin Townsend, which ended with a resounding "thanks" by Anneke. And as the night promised interactivity between idol and fans, behold! Someone shouts in the crowd "I Love you". Anneke, without thinking twice, returns "Love you too". It was just the beginning ...
The show continued with "Ice Water" and "Trail Of Greaf", both from the album "Air", the first of Agua de Annique, and "My Town", a recent creation of the band, not yet included in any album. Fifth from the list, and one of the highlights of the night, "Beautiful One" was chanted in unison by all present, making Anneke hold tears on stage, clearly moved by the dedication of the public who accompanied her on vocals.
Followed: "Alone" by The Gathering, "Day After Yesterday" and "Sunken Soldiers Ball", of the "Air" album, "Make It All New", "My Girl" and "Scorpion Flower", cover of Moonspell. Anneke then initiated the second major highlight of the evening: "Witnesses", one of the hits from the album "Air" and, personally, my favorite song of the band.
