<span style="font-weight: bold;">Onmyo-Za (which is also referred to as Onmyouza or Onmyoza)
is a Japanese band originated in Osaka, Kinki region on Honshu island.
Through a very orthodox style of heavy metal, is well known for its
originality and, somehow, exoticism, and one of the few successfull
bands based on the female voice (and I must say: what a great voice!)
that uses Visual Kei, movement characterized by the exuberant
appearance carried by their representatives.
Formed in 1999 with the release of Kikoku-Tensho, Onmyouza is composed of five members: Kuroneko, the powerful singer, the bassist and band leader, Matatabi, second voice in the duets of Onmyouza, in addition to the talented guitarists Maneki and Karukan and the charismatic drummer Torah.
The name is an indication of the musical direction taken by the band.
Onmyouza is the reading of ancient Japanese characters that indicate
the meeting between Yin and Yang (the contrast is one of the main
pillars of it's musicality). In addition, the band's name can be
interpreted in another way when we observe that, at the imperial court
of the Heian era, in old Japan, there was sorcerers called Onmyouji,
exorcists and spiritual advisers. And the Japanese legends and culture,
emphasizing here the youkais's folklore, one of the most famou
smythology in Japan, is the main theme of the songs composed by
Kuroneko and Matatabi.

And speaking of songs, the musical style of Onmyouza is usually defined
as Enka Metal, as Enka is the modern style that incorporates typical
sounds of old Japanese songs with the rhythms of today's western music.
Do you understand now the questions of originality that I quoted in the
beginning of this matter? Surely, at the music universe, Onmyouza is a
unique experience, different and grateful.
But be sure that better than hearing Onmyouza, is to watch a show of
Onmyouza. The theatrical performances that they run on the shows,
keeping (and sometimes overcoming) the sound quality of their music on
the live presentations, is a rare achievement in today's music..
For us Brazilians, remains the hope that Onmyouza share the concern
that many artists have shown for Brazil and Latin America, and include
us in the coming world tours (hopefully many!).
